Which Honey Should You Choose? Compare Six Honey Pot Varietals

Compare Multi Flora, Apple Blossom, Eucalyptus, Buchu, Citrus and Wolvedoring raw honey by flavour, intensity and best uses.

Six Honey Pot raw honey varietals in correctly labelled 500g jars

Quick answer

Choose Multi Flora for a balanced everyday jar, Apple Blossom for a gentler floral profile, Eucalyptus for richer aroma, Buchu for herbal Cape character, Citrus for brightness or Wolvedoring for a deep rounded flavour. There is no single best honey for every person; the best choice depends on the food, drink or gift you have in mind.

This guide uses flavour and everyday use to make the decision easier. It avoids unsupported medical promises and focuses on what you can reasonably expect when you open the jar.

01

The six-varietal comparison at a glance

Floral source is one of the reasons honeys can differ in colour, aroma and flavour. Seasonal conditions also matter, so each description is a useful direction rather than a promise that nature will reproduce the exact same shade and texture every time.

  • Multi Flora — floral, balanced and versatile; best default for everyday use
  • Apple Blossom — gentle, fragrant and bright; best for a lighter breakfast honey
  • Eucalyptus — deep, distinctive and warming; best for tea, toast and marinades
  • Buchu — herbal, earthy and distinctive; best for an unmistakably Cape tasting experience
  • Citrus — light, bright and fragrant; best for breakfast, yoghurt and tea
  • Wolvedoring — dark, rounded and distinctive; best for toast, cheese boards and marinades
02

Choose by the moment, not only the name

For tea, decide whether you want the honey to stay in the background or become part of the aroma. Apple Blossom is the quietest choice when available, Citrus is bright, Eucalyptus is more noticeable and Multi Flora sits between them.

For toast, yoghurt and oats, Citrus and Multi Flora are easy starting points. For glazes and marinades, Eucalyptus or Wolvedoring can hold their character beside savoury ingredients. Buchu is ideal when the point is discovery rather than familiarity.

03

Choose by personality and risk

A cautious first-time buyer usually wants a familiar, flexible flavour. Multi Flora reduces the risk of choosing something too strong and is currently R100 for 500g.

An adventurous buyer is more likely to appreciate Buchu. A person who prefers fragrant and light foods may enjoy Apple Blossom, while someone who likes deeper flavours may favour Eucalyptus. This simple matching approach is especially useful when buying a gift.

04

Use the pair offer as a tasting tool

Any two eligible 500g jars selected from Eucalyptus, Buchu, Citrus and Wolvedoring are R230. The strongest comparison is to choose contrasting styles: Citrus with Wolvedoring, or Citrus with Buchu.

If you already know you want an everyday jar, add Multi Flora separately at R100. Promotions are applied by the basket, so you can see the saving before completing the order.

Easy tasting pair: Citrus for brightness plus Wolvedoring for dark, rounded depth.
05

Remember that natural variation is expected

Honey colour can range from very light to dark brown, while consistency can be fluid, viscous or crystallised. These qualities alone do not tell you which jar you will enjoy most.

Store the jar closed, use a clean dry spoon and judge it primarily by aroma, flavour and how well it works in your usual food. Never give honey to a child younger than 12 months.

Responsible honey note

Honey is a food, not a medical treatment. Flavour, colour, texture and crystallisation can vary naturally by floral source, season and storage. Honey should never be given to a child younger than 12 months.
